Plot Summary:
The luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain is a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side, and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz to the much coveted Pirate of the Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist, but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!

Great fun for Aardman fans
It’s 1837, England rules the seas with the exception of pirates around the Caribbean. The Pirate Captain wants to win the Pirate of the Year Award after 20 years of losing. He and his weird pathetic crew must out pirate the best out there including Black Bellamy, Peg Leg Hastings and Cutlass Liz. The other pirates make fun of them. Then they capture Charles Darwin and his ship. Darwin notices that the Captain’s parrot is actually a DoDo.

From Aardman Animations, it has the same look and the same earnest sarcastic sense of humor. However it’s a bit repetitive after awhile with the constant stream of similar tone jokes. The title is horrible and they need to give the Pirate Captain a better name. The movie picks up a bit more comically with Darwin. The Captain and Darwin have some good fun chemistry. The comedy however may not be everybody’s taste.Read More
