“Borat” almost all over again
Having played a boorish Kazakh journalist in “Borat”, Sacha Baron Cohen now plays a gay (and ultra-flamboyant) Austrian fashion journalist in “Brüno”. As the title character, Baron Cohen goes for the jugular in every way, being as un-PC as possible. As in the previous outing, he does the movie documentary-style to get people’s reactions, although this one doesn’t opt for teenage boy humor as much. Director Larry Charles had recently done something similar with Bill Maher’s documentary “Religulous”, in which the comedian trashes organized religion. But with this one, Baron Cohen is not afraid to show the most extreme things imaginable, just to get people to reveal their true selves. I certainly liked it, although I don’t know if you will. Just understand that the content is likely to blow your mind.
